Handrails

share
The GRP handrails are manufactured using an advanced pultrusion process, which involves the polymerization of a profile pulled through a heated forming die. This method allows to produce handrails that can contain up to 70% fiberglass, giving them excellent mechanical properties and significant resistance to impact and fatigue, preventing permanent deformations in case of accidental overloads.

Details of GRP handrails

They are lightweight, easy to install, free from painting and maintenance, and economically advantageous

The Eurograte industrial handrail is designed with standardized modular elements, offering the possibility to add various accessories. This feature allows the handrail system to be adapted to different specific needs and facilitates installation.

The handrail elements consist of continuous fiberglass strands (E-type roving), and thermosetting resin as a chemically resistant matrix mechanically made using the pultrusion system.

The matrix, based on isophthalic polyester resin, compacts and protects the structural reinforcement. It can also be offered with other types of resins, such as vinylester, acrylics, or self-extinguishing halogen-free resin with low smoke emissions. All matrix formulations are certified according to AFNOR or ASTM standards.

The mechanical reinforcement structure is made with continuous unidirectional fiberglass roving (E-type roving).

Every Eurograte pultruded profile incorporates, as a standard in the manufacturing process, the use of continuous multidirectional glass mats which increase the transverse mechanical resistance. Furthermore, all profiles are manufactured with the implementation of an external synthetic surfacing veil: this increases the chemical protection and avoids fibre blooming as well as adding further protection to possible deterioration caused by UV exposure and weather agents.

The handrails systems are available in standard colours like yellow or grey. Other colours can be produced upon request.

Eurograte handrails comply with the EN 14122-3 standard, which specifies the following requirements:

  • Installation of fiberglass handrail systems: for walking surfaces with a height greater than 500 mm, a protective railing must be installed to prevent falls.
  • Minimum height: the minimum height of the rail from the walking surface must be 1100 mm.
  • Knee rail: the railing system must include at least one intermediate horizontal element.
  • Maximum vertical opening: the maximum vertical distance between horizontal elements must not exceed 500 mm.
  • Toe plate: a toe plate (kick plate) must be installed at a maximum height of 10 mm from the walking surface.
  • Maximum spacing of vertical posts: vertical posts should be positioned with a maximum center-to-center distance of 1500 mm.

Distinctive features

The distinctive features of our safety railing are:

Corrosion resistance

the isophthalic resin used in the construction of the rails ensures excellent corrosion resistance. The polyester veil, embedded on the surface during production, avoids fibre blooming and guarantees protection against UV rays and weather elements.

Lightweight and insulation

the lower weight of fiberglass rails compared to an equivalent steel structure means significant savings in transport, handling, assembly, or for elements that require frequent maintenance. Non-magnetic and non-conductive, the profiles offer excellent electrical and thermal insulation.

Maintenance-free

Eurograte fiberglass rails ensure remarkable durability in any environment thanks to the complete absence of maintenance.

Ease of installation

fiberglass rails are lightweight and easy to handle, making installation quick and simple. Thanks to their modularity, the handrail systems can be assembled without the use of heavy equipment or complex techniques, reducing installation time and costs.

Internal colouring

fiberglass can be internally coloured during the manufacturing process, ensuring a uniform and long-lasting colour. This avoids the need for external painting, further reducing maintenance costs and ensuring that the colour will not fade or peel over time.

No grounding required

unlike metal rails, fiberglass ones do not conduct electricity. This means grounding is not necessary, making them ideal for environments where electrical safety is a priority, such as chemical industries or electrical installations.

Radio Transparency

fiberglass handrails are transparent to radio waves, making them perfect for installations where the transmission of radio or wireless signals is necessary. This is particularly useful in industrial or technological environments where wireless communication is essential.
