Pultruded gratings

share
Eurograte pultruded gratings are made through pultrusion, using thermosetting resins, continuous glass fibres, multidirectional fiberglass mats, synthetic surfacing veil and silica granules.

Details of pultruded gratings

The high percentage of fiberglass present in the load-bearing bars provides significant strength relative to the supported weight and high stiffness in the longitudinal direction.

The silica granules embedded in the upper part of the panel make the surface slip resistant.

Thanks to the numerous advantages of fiberglass, pultruded gratings are the best solution to replace aluminium and steel gratings in highly corrosive environments.

The Resins:

Eurograte pultruded gratings are manufactured using two resin formulations that are suitable for most of the industrial applications. Both resin systems provide superior corrosion resistance compared to metal gratings.

  • Iso-phthalic resin gratings: this resin formulation provides a flame spread rating of less than 25 according to ASTM E84 standard. Gratings in this resin formulation are designed to be used in moderate corrosive environments with occasional spills or splashes of aggressive chemicals.
  • Vinyl ester resin gratings: this resin formulation provides a flame spread rating of less than 25 according to ASTM E84 standard. Gratings in this resin formulation are designed to be used in highly corrosive environments where the contact of harsh chemicals is frequent.
  • Phenolic resin gratings: gratings in phenolic resin formulation are designed for high-fire-risk environments where minimal smoke development and maximum fire resistance are required. Specifically, Eurograte offers pultruded gratings in phenolic resin approved by the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) with L2 classification according to the new ASTM F3059-15 standards.

Distinctive features

The distinctive features of pultruded gratings are:

Corrosion resistance

pultruded gratings provide prolonged resistance in chemically aggressive environments. The composite material is the ideal solution for outdoor applications, in chemical environments, and in very aggressive settings.

Mechanical strength

the high percentage of fiberglass present in the load-bearing bars offers significant strength relative to the weight supported and higher stiffness in the longitudinal direction.

Self-extinguishing properties

pultruded gratings are made with resins that have fire-retardant properties with a flame spread rating of Class 1 (less than 25), according to ASTM E84 norm and the self-extinguishing requirements of ASTM D635 norm. For high fire-risk environments, Eurograte offers pultruded gratings in phenolic resin approved by the USCG with L2 rating according to the new ASTM F3059 standards.

UV protection

pultruded gratings are made with UV inhibitors embedded in the resin, a synthetic surfacing veil, and a permanent slip-resistant surface made with pure silica grains for greater resistance to ultraviolet rays.

Safety

pultruded gratings are supplied with a durable and permanent slip-resistant surface made from silica granules, ensuring the product is safe against any risk of slipping.

Electrical and thermal insulation

the gratings are non-magnetic and non-conductive, two characteristics that make them essential for many applications.

Electronic transparency

the characteristics of the material used do not interfere with radio or electromagnetic frequencies, allowing for installation in "sensitive" applications.

Lightweight

with less than one-half the weight of comparable steel gratings, handling is easy and does not require heavy equipment, leading to significant energy savings.

Maintenance-free

thanks to the intrinsic characteristics of the material, pultruded gratings do not require sandblasting or painting and ensure considerable durability in any environment.

Ease of assembly

thanks to their lightweight, lifting equipment is not necessary for handling the gratings. They can also be cut and shaped on specific requests and directly on-site.
