Pultruded profiles

share
Structural profiles are produced through a pultrusion process (polymerization of a profile pulled through a heated forming dies) and are made of continuous fiberglass roving and thermosetting resin as a chemical-resistant matrix.

Details of pultruded profiles

The mixing matrix is the component that compacts and protects the structural reinforcement. Typically made with isophthalic polyester resin, the matrix can also be offered with different types of resin: vinylester resin, acrylic resin, or self-extinguishing halogen-free resin with low smoke emissions. The various formulations of the matrix are certified according to AFNOR or ASTM standards.

The mechanical reinforcement structure is provided by continuous unidirectional fiberglass strands (E-type roving), which ensures excellent resistance to impacts and fatigue (permanent deformations from overloads do not occur).

Each Eurograte pultruded profile includes the use of reinforcements based on continuous multidirectional glass mats that enhance the transverse mechanical properties. It is also noted that during production, a polyester veil is embedded on the surface: this prevents the fibres from surfacing and ensures protection against UV rays and weather elements.

Pultruded profiles in GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastics) offer numerous advantages, including exceptional rigidity, corrosion resistance, electrical insulation, and lightweight properties. Designed by experts in structural engineering, these profiles consider all the necessary characteristics for a support profile or beam, such as longitudinal stiffness, shear rapture, flange bending, and resistance to lateral loading.

Eurograte profiles are designed to ensure safe use as support elements, providing all necessary safety guarantees. These features make them ideal for applications in critical environments and for structures that require high performance.

Distinctive features

The distinctive features of pultruded profiles are:

E23 classification

pultruded profiles in composite material have certified E23 performance, as they meet the mechanical and aesthetic requirements according to EN13706 standards. E23 represents the highest standard for the load-bearing performance.

Corrosion resistance

the isophthalic resin, commonly used for producing the profiles, ensures excellent corrosion resistance. The polyester veil, embedded on the surface during production, prevents fibre surfacing and ensures protection against UV rays and atmospheric agents.

Ease of use

composite material profiles are easy to assemble, cut, or drill using standard tools. Additionally, they are assembled with bolts more quickly compared to traditional metal profiles.

Lightweight and insulation

for equal rigidity, a support with Eurograte pultruded profiles weighs about three times less than the equivalent steel support. The lower weight translates into significant savings in transportation, handling, assembly, or elements subjected to frequent maintenance. Non-magnetic and non-conductive, the profiles offer excellent electrical and thermal insulation.

Fiberglass nuts and bolts

the threaded rods and nuts made of fiberglass-reinforced epoxy resin have excellent mechanical and chemical resistance. They allow the creation of strong assemblies without any metal components. With standard ISO pitch, these bolts distinguished from metal bolts by a special profile of the threaded rod, which allows for continuous tightening.

Types

Eurograte, leveraging its experience and the expertise of its technical office, designs structures using structural pultruded profiles, performing finite element calculations and strictly adhering to reference standards.

To ensure the highest quality, the company exclusively offers structural profiles compliant with the EN 13706 standard, classified as E23. This standard establishes the requirements for quality, tolerances, strength, stiffness, and surface finishing of structural profiles.

The table of technical properties below illustrates the mechanical performance of Eurograte profiles, compared to the minimum requirements of the E23 classification, which represents the highest standard for load-bearing performance.

It is possible to receive the technical documentation by contacting Eurograte. The company also offers specific meshes and formats upon request and makes its certificates available.

Eurograte fiberglass pultruded profiles meet the grade requirements to be classified as E23 according to the EN13706 standard.
